The Day the Earth Stood Still

 

Fidel Castro came to power in 1959 after overthrowing the corrupt government of Fulgencio Batista.  After seizing control, Castro set up a repressive Communist government with close ties to Moscow.  In 1962 Nikita Khrushchev ordered the installation of nuclear missiles in Cuba, a move that brought the world to the brink of annihilation.  It was the day the world stood still and we held our breath.  Some of us still vividly remember images of Russian ships steaming towards Cuba with U.S. warships blocking their path.  It was touch and go.

 

Now after more than 50 years of isolationism, President Obama has moved to re-establish relationships with Cuba.

 

Doors are opening in Cuba for The Carter Report team to do what they did in Russia in 1991.  We were in Moscow when Communism collapsed.  By God’s grace, we were the first to arrive and when the others left, we stayed on.  We conducted citywide campaigns in Russia’s largest cities, and we still have a commitment to these lost sheep.  We plan, by His grace, to return to Russia during January 2016.

 

As you read this letter, we will be packing our bags for Cuba.

 

Our plan is to visit with God’s people and plan a large evangelistic campaign.  The challenges are great, but God is greater.

 

 

While in Castro’s Cuba, we will visit and strategize with church leaders, pastors and people.  We will travel around the island.  We will let God lead and watch for His providences.  We will attempt great things for God, and expect great things from God.

 

We will make the necessary payments to move ahead as we did in Russia.

 

How can you help at this crisis time in world history?

 

By praying.  “The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”  Your prayers of faith will cast mountains into the sea.  Please pray for me.

By helping us raise a sufficient sum of money for Cuban evangelism.  We will need to raise a million dollars.  At this time I am praying that the Lord of the Harvest will move on loving hearts to help us raise this budget.  God will tell you, dear friend, what He would have you do.  My hands are tied without your help.  Please lay this before the Lord, and let Him show you how you can be His partner in this great work during these tremendous times.

One famous wealthy American businessman started out by returning a tithe of his income.  So great were the blessings, he was soon returning two tithes, and eventually nine tithes.  He was almost overwhelmed by the outpouring of the “windows of heaven.”  His remaining one-tenth was far more than his original total income.  God’s secret of prosperity: the more you give, the more you get; the more you bless, the more you are blessed.
