It’s not the Day of Pentecost here in Port Moresby, but it’s pretty close.

On the Bible’s day of Pentecost about 3000 were baptized. This morning at Port Moresby's beautiful Ela Beach, 2750 were baptized.

About 50,000 church members gathered along a 1000 feet of the Beach to witness the event. The candidates had been attending the Carter Report program for the last two weeks and responded to the appeal to be baptized.

  • “It was the best-ever baptism ceremony in Port Moresby,” says one local.
  • “I had the privilege of taking some footage from the water,” says a Port Moresby radio announcer. “The scene from the sea looking to the land and seeing over 50,000 people was just magnificent. Witnessing the baptism up close was emotional. It was an awesome experience.”
  • “It was amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it,” says an Australia pastor who was there.
