Dear Partner,
Today I had lunch with a 50-year-old gentleman who is the CEO for government funded healthcare in a large state. His responsibility is to look after children, adolescents and young people.
What he told me alarmed me.
This state is large, wealthy and prosperous. The economy is booming. So what he described is not the product of poverty. The government he represents has tons of money to throw at problems — and is throwing it. My friend told me 20% of all the children have a medical or mental problem. Particularly worrisome are the young women. They have a high accident and suicide rate, and many suffer from psychological problems that baffle the most skilled therapists. These girls behave like wild young men but don’t have the resilience to cope with the physical abuse. In contrast, many of the boys act like girls.
The healthcare CEO gravely told me things are getting worse. He confided he had no lasting solutions. He sounded like a man carrying the world on his shoulders.
He described over lunch the break-up of society and the breakdown of the home, society’s anchor. He is a good man yet he has no answers.
Without sounding presumptuous, may I suggest that the cause of the pending catastrophe is evident. Here it is: “God died in the nineteenth century, and man has been dying ever since.” Society is like a battered ship on a storm-tossed sea, without a rudder. God is denied and His Law despised. The fact that the majority of young people and adults under 40 see no problem with “same sex” marriage tells us something. Whatever happened to the plain teachings of the Bible?* These millions of young people are either ignorant of basic Christian teachings, or have decided to discard God like a disposable paper cup.
Is there anything we can do? Yes, there is. We must hold on to Christ, His Word, and His Commandments. We must choose to be different when being in the minority means being right. We must support the faithful, honest, truthful preaching of God’s Word.
We must stand up when others fall down. Remember, if you stand for nothing, you will surely fall for anything.
