After salvation, our greatest privilege is that God communicates with us through prayer. How amazing that the Creator of the Universe invites us to communicate with Him! While the Bible clearly teaches that we are to give God our requests in prayer, I believe the primary purpose of prayer is getting to know Him.
*Please pray for the Carter Report ministry, and all like ministries, that God will continue to bless so His truth will be proclaimed around the world.
Q. I have just become a Christian and have been told the importance of a vital prayer life. What is the main difference between prayers of other religions and the Christian religion? Ron.
A. There is a big difference between saying prayers, (like our friends in the Buddhist, Hindu, and some other religions do) and actually praying to God. The Bible teaches that prayer was given to mankind as a gift, a gift that makes it possible for us to have a loving relationship with our heavenly Father! Important as our requests and needs are to God, He wants us to commune with Him. The Oxford dictionary gives the meaning of ‘commune’ as: “to share your intimate thoughts or feelings with someone”. The next part of communing with God is the most important part of all, it is listening to God speak to us through His word. What a privilege for the human race to be invited to have such a relationship with the Creator of the universe!
Q. When is the best time to pray? Ruth.
A. Whenever you need it! While we should start and close the day by talking with God, His ear is always open to us.
Let us always remember:
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
We should never be afraid to come to our Heavenly Father in prayer.
Blessings to you,
Beverley Carter
