January One Edition
2013

Dear Friend and Partner,

Since the first day of January 2012, we have travelled 583 million miles (940 million kilometers) at 67,000 miles per hour (107,000 Km/h).  If you live at the Equator you have moved at 1,000 miles per hour as Planet Earth has turned on its axis.  During the past year, we have rotated 366.26 times.  Our year long journey has taken us around a medium sized star we call the Sun.  This ball of nuclear fire is 93 million miles from us and is one of 200,000,000,000 suns in our local Milky Way Galaxy.  There are around 200,000,000,000 galaxies in the universe.  Are there other universes?  I think so.

God does things on a big scale, doesn’t He?  He is not small or petty.  He thinks big and acts big.  He does not have an energy or fiscal crisis.  He does not grow tired or weary.  He is not forgetful, revengeful, capricious, or easily offended.  He is altogether good and kind, and generous beyond measure.  He is the very opposite of Mr. Scrooge of Dicken’s, “Christmas Carol.”

The Bible says this awesome God became a man and lived among us.  As a human, He died outside Jerusalem in a way that was cruel, bloody, and barbaric.  The perpetrators of this dastardly deed were His own people.  Yet to all He offers peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, life, and renewal.  Quite amazing isn’t it?  It’s not what one would expect from a God who was murdered when He came to visit.

The Carter Report wants to partner with you in telling people about this truly incredible God.  We want to do this because without the great God of the stars who became our Redeemer there is simply no hope.  When the party is over, when the dancing has stopped, and the crowds have gone home, there is nothing but boredom, disillusionment, and slow death, without Him.  He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”  We at The Carter Report live to share the Good News about Him.

During 2013 we want to creatively explore new and more effective ways of spreading the Good News that the Bible calls the Gospel.  We do not want to retreat into a comfortable isolation of pious small-mindedness.  We do not want to degenerate into a smug and secure religiosity that is satisfied with the status quo.  We want, with you, to do more for God, and reach more for God.  Onwards and upwards.

Here at The Carter Report we are prepared to put our very lives on the line to share the Word of Life with souls perishing in sin and darkness.  Please partner with us.  As the Spirit is poured out and our partners respond with gifts for evangelism, the light of a new day will shine forth.  Let us take courage and move out in faith with hope burning in our hearts.  The best is yet to be.

Our friend the Creator is about to finish His work and cut it short in righteousness.  Soon He will come and take His people home to Glory.  Now is the time for us to think God’s big thoughts after Him.  Never forget the words carved over the doorway of a little church in Calcutta:  “Attempt great things for God; expect great things FROM God.”

Please write soon.  God has great things in store for each of us during 2013.  Remember again, “the best is yet to be.”

May He bless you over and beyond all you can ask or think.
Lovingly yours in the Blessed Hope and with a heart full of gratitude and thankfulness,

John Carter
